8 Inch Chef's Knife

Handmade in Britain. Sharp, balanced, and built to last.

Cabin Knives are made by hand in the UK by Alfie, a small independent maker with a serious following and stock that sells out fast when it drops. The 8 inch chef's knife is built from Takefu 67-layer Damascus steel with a VG10 core and a G10 handle — sharp out of the box, well-balanced in the hand, and built to a standard you won't find at this size in mass-produced knives. The blade geometry allows a proper pinch grip right at the heel, which gives you far more control than choking up on a factory knife of the same length. This is not a recommendation in the usual sense — you cannot simply order one. But if you find one available, it is worth it.

Why I use it

I bought this because I wanted a handmade knife with real character, and it delivers. The balance is immediate — it sits perfectly in a pinch grip at the heel and makes an 8 inch blade feel entirely manageable. It is sharp in a way that mass-produced knives rarely are straight away, and it looks as good as it performs.
